"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:21
by Kayla Howard
Have you ever really listened to what you are saying? I mean, actually evaluated what you said and how it sounds?
It's surprising how we can speak curses over our life without evening know it! My own coach caught me saying something about myself this week that if I had thought about it, I would NOT want to have a place in my life. "You know that death and life are in the power of the tongue?" She asked.
So true, so true.
Listen, this isn't just what you say out loud to yourself and others, we are going to include the inner self talk that goes on in your head all day long. What are you saying about yourself in there?
I cannot over emphasis this enough. Stop speaking curses over your life. Start speaking things into you life that you want to be in your life. I'm not suggesting that by saying and thinking positive things, you will be able to get whatever you want—that' woo-woo that I don't do.
Here are some simple steps that will help you along the way.
#1 Be Grateful Verbally
No matter how small, no matter how insignificant, verbalize your thankfulness for things in your life. If I notice that I feel good, I say, "I feel great!" and I thank the Lord that I feel great. That's the outer and inner dialog.
#2 Listen to Your Thoughts and Words
Are the thoughts in your head condemning? Rebuke them and replace them with the truth. If you hear the thought, "fat stomach, fat, fat, stomach…" Rebuke it and replace it, "my belly feels well inside and I'm standing up straighter to strengthen it from the outside….look at that start of muscle definition!"
#3 Fill Your Mind with Truth
Be sure and listen to words of truth. Avoid things that create stressful condemnation in your life. If going to the mall and trying on clothes brings out your inner negative voices, order your clothes on the internet. I don't know—just find a way to flip it around! Surround yourself with people who build you up and do not tear others down, (aka, gossip).
Be a blessing today, to yourself and to others.
