Where Are The Signs?

by Kayla Howard

Have you ever felt lost in life?  Stuck in a rut?  Unclear of what you should even do with yourself?  Maybe you’ve even asked God to give you some sign, or a strong sense of direction toward the best path.  I think it’s safe to assume most people have experienced that at some point in their lives.

We’ve stood there wondering, “where are the signs?”

Often, we have the map.  My Bible is my map.  I know where I should go, what I should be, and how my life should work, but it does not always cooperate.  I may be stuck in a pattern of “get-it-done-without-any-fun” attitude. Perhaps I’m stuck in a “I’m-down-so-I-need-food” rut.  Or how about this one, “I’m-too-busy-right-now” for exercise, reading that story, coloring with you, or anything that’s not on the to-do list?

We have a map, but we can’t find the signs that give us directions.  Sometimes we don’t even know where the starting point is right now.

I have two things on my heart today.  They are on my heart because God has been working on me personally in these areas.

#1 Gratefulness

Being grateful is a powerful weapon against any kind of slump.  Savoring every single moment.  If you’ve read “1000 Gifts”, as I know many of you have, you know what I’m talking about.  Simply being grateful for each and every thing in your life, no matter how small.  It’s truly amazing the powerful shift that takes place in your attitude when you start to be grateful.

#2 Taking The First Step

Here is the deal.  Most of the time God is not going to show you every step you’ll ever need to take in your life.  Usually you will only know what the first step should be.  Sometimes you pretend that you don’t know what that step is, but deep down, you do know.  No matter how small that step may seem,– it’s important to take it.

For me, I had a first step that required me to humble myself and ask for forgiveness for a small issue.  I had told myself so many times that it was so small, God surely did not care, but the nudging didn’t leave.  Finally I realized that I would have nothing to lose if I just took that step.

That small step turned out to be the biggest step I’ve taken forward in my life.

Take courage today.  Take that first step.  Choose gratefulness.  Then watch your life transform before your eyes!

  1. I think you must have been listening in on my conversation with the Lord 10 minutes ago!  Now to recognize what the first step is.  I love having a plan and the big picture to work towards and right now I feel like I've lost that.  This blog post spoke to my heart with where I am this very moment.  Thanks for sharing this.
