I’m not getting the weight loss results I wanted (part 2)

This is a the second in a 2 part series on the reasons you may not getting the results you want in your fitness goals.  In other words, why you aren’t getting smaller even though you are working hard.  So, where were we…

Your adrenals or thyroid are weak
Running through life at 150 mph and fueling our bodies poorly, (not to mention emotional stress) takes it toll.  Actually, there are many reasons why your thyroid or adrenals weaken.  I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read at Jen Spinger’s website, including this Adrenal Fatiue Questionaire.   If you want more help and insight in the thyroid department, get connected with Mary Shomon.

Some form of dis-ease plagues you
By “dis-ease” I don’t just mean diseases as we know them. I’m talking physical, emotional, spiritual and the like.  Dis-ease means anything that puts you NOT at ease.  We are physical, emotional and spiritual beings and dis-ease can plague us on any one of those levels.   When dis-ease enters, it can impact every part of our physical body as well.  Take a long reflective look at what’s going on in your life.  Are you doing too much?  Are you carrying around a load of unforgiveness?  Are you out of fellowship with God?
You don’t get enough sleep
Hello. You will not feel like keeping up with your work outs if you stay up after 10pm every night.   Not only that, you’ll be on the road to adrenal fatigue as well.  Please sleep, your body will thank you.  Ideally you should go to bed by 10pm most nights.  Remember, every hour your sleep before midnight counts for 2!

Hormones are ruling you
Women, this is especially for you.  Our hormones fluctuate a lot in just one month’s time.  Then as we age, we begin to change even more until we finally go through menopause.  Each person seems to move through life’s transitions just a little bit differently but almost everyone will agree that the older you get, the harder it is to lose weight.  This is partly due to the hormone shift occurring in your body.  Ironically, even though I have divided out all these “reasons” this last week, they are all actually interconnected.  Meaning, your hormones will be worse if you eat poorly or don’t exercise enough.  But your hormone or adrenal imbalance might cause you to not sleep at night.  See what I mean? 

“Woe is me” wins over “yes I can”
These are the folks who start out with a bang, workout for a few weeks, maybe even 3-4 months, don’t see what they expected and “shove it”. Losing inches takes a serious dose of “YES I WILL” and “just do it.” I’ve talked to many folks who didn’t see any inch loss for months, sometimes more than a year, then suddenly everything started melting away.  I always tell my clients, “often times the body will heal itself on the inside before it shows up on the outside.”  T-Tapp is a very rehabilitative workout– structurally and also internally.
Ultimately, as I stated earlier, your body is all connected and one thing will always effect the whole.  Be careful that you look first to what can be fixed on the inside, without any medication or doctors, the emotional part of you.  Starting there can take you leaps and bounds toward a whole person before ever consulting someone else!

  1. I finally crashed after a long, hard workout at the gym a couple weeks ago and began looking into adrenal problems. T-Tapp is hard, yes, but I push thru it because I don’t get that exhausted feeling I get from pure cardio (and why I avoid SATI!). Just 10 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the weight machines and my legs were jello for almost a week. No pain or soreness (I could actually keep up with my 19 year old daughter), but intense bone and deep muscle aching….like it feels after a day walking around Disney World…couldn’t sleep for 3 nights. I must’ve used up every bit of reserve I had left.

    I am now doing the Personal Program for Adrenal health from Women to Women. After the workout crash, along with continually slower and slower inch loss and no size loss for 5 months, then beginning to gain inches in my waist and abdomen I knew something wasn’t right.

    Unfortuately, I will only be doing PBS, an occasional HD and OIP/HF for now with a short walk with my dog in the evenings. Even BWO+ wipes me out for the day. My legs have actually given out while trying to get thru it. I’m hoping I won’t regain inches and fat, and I don’t relish starting over with Tapping once I’m healed, but with so much stress in my life that is out of my control, I need to pull back from intense workouts. Evidently the adrenals are not something to mess around with, and I’m learning the hard way. It will set me back perhaps a year or more in reaching my size and health goals.

  2. Ah, Kayla, this is just what I needed to hear. I’ve been doing the Basic Workout Plus for
    2 weeks, starting with the 4 day boot camp. The stomach hasn’t budged but I said to
    myself last night….”self, this is absolutely the BEST way to work out that’s you’ve ever
    found, so just do it anyhow. Even if you don’t lose anything, it’s GOOD FOR YOU in so many other ways.”

    And reading this…..really drove my self-talk home. I love that we heal from the inside out;
    I’ve known and believed that for years. And know too it can take years. So thanks for your input, perfect timing. And really…ultimately it’s the Lord that is healing us so who knows what He’s working on deep down inside. I’m more then willing to keep putting it back (big grin) into His hands, not mine.

    I should say I’ve gotten some nice energy so far and I think the tiredness that I feel in my legs has gotten better. And my mood is better. That definitely shows the inside/out/top/down healing paths.

Oh yes, I am one of those people that don't see much results with TTapp.  I eat fantastic and have for the past decade.  Practice a martial art 3x a week for 5 yrs now.  Never lost weight no matter how hard I tried.  Last year I started t tapp and didn't get much results.  When I contacted the office I was told to do another 7 day bootcamp.  At the end I had gained slightly all over.  I called the office again and I was put on a 14 day  bootcamp doing the hour total workout.  I promptly gained 3 inches in my waist and 2 in each thigh. I finally quit.  I decided to try again this year, hired a trainer and have been t tapping the past 5 months without anything shifting.  I have my moments of discouragement, but I still have hope. I have been doing Mindful Movement for a month now hoping that this will be the one that works for me.
