Aware and Fully Present
by Kayla Howard
Intense, undivided attention is a gift. Are you fully present during conversations with those around you or have you ever found your mind wandering?
Daydreaming, thinking about someone else, or even thinking of the next thing you want to say is detrimental to good conversation. Have you found yourself “listening” to someone talk, but allowing your mind to wander, then are forced to ask, “Huh? Would you repeat that, I didn’t understand you”…or how about when you’re driving and suddenly wonder, “did I pass that stand of trees yet or not…hm…”
Results and relationships are minimized when you aren’t totally present.
But the consequence might be even worse than reduced connection with others…People can get injured during thoughtless communications.
As we go through today, ask God for the awareness to hear those around you. First we have to become aware of our own actions–like when we aren't listening. After we become aware, then we can change those bad habits. It doesn't happened overnight, but it does happen with each obeidient step.
While you are in your home, our at work, listening to friends or talking to strangers, LISTEN to what they are saying by being aware and fully present. Your undivivded attention is one of the greatest gifts you can give!
