We Need to Talk

by Kayla Howard

We need to talk. I’m having a brain fart…a real one, and it stinks. It’s a smelly way of thinking that just sort of bubbles up from time to time. I figured that if I’m having one, you might be having one too.

Have you ever thought, “I need to do my work out”? Well yes, of course you have. Did you think, “I need to spend XX amount of time,” or had a thought like, ”what my body really needs is a Full Workout”? However, you don’t have time to do a Total workout because it’s 4pm, and you still have to make dinner, and who know what else this evening.

You COULD do one move, but your body NEEDS a full workout…

So, you don’t do anything. It’s kind of like a mini temper tantrum. “I can’t do what I think I need to do, so I won’t do anything. SO THERE”.

This doesn’t usually happen consciously, but it does happen.

Over the summer months I was doing great with workouts because I was teaching at least 6 times per week. Then September came, the end of summer coaching, sickness, then school—UGG! It’s like somebody hooked up time vacuums to my life. They are sucking seconds away at an alarming rate.

Every time I turn around the floor needs vacuumed and the clothes are all dirty. At the end of each week I feel like, “well, we didn’t really cover the Vikings this week, but I guess we’ll move on to Feudalism…”

Does your life feel like that?

I’m not actually complaining because I feel like I’m enjoying all the things I’m doing lately with so much Joy! However, I’m not always fitting my workouts in like I should and the hard earned inch loss I gained at the end of summer is slipping away. That’s when that smelly little thought hits me… “You need to spend more time working out…you know your body looks best when you do full workouts…that little 6 minute challenge you’re doing, that’s not going to cut the mustard.”

Whoa! Stop that thought in its tracks. That is dead wrong!

That 6 minute challenge is going to do a whole lot more than we know. Not only is it moving your body for 6 minutes more than you would if you did not do it, you are burning off extra sugar, giving yourself a mental boost and awakening better posture. Better posture means better breathing, better functioning lymphatic system, better digestion—which all means, a healthier smaller you.

So when the smelly, sneaky voice whispers half-truths to your mind, tell him to get lost, then go spend 6 minutes doing some powerful T-Tapp moves rather than 6 minutes thinking about what you need to do.

It’s not too late to join me here! 14 Day Challenge
